What a trip of a lifetime. We were so lucky & excited that we were asked to go shoot a wedding in Copenhagen in late summer 2016. So we decided to make a pit stop somewhere in Europe before we shoot this spectacular wedding. So, we chose Paris because we thought it would be romantic to be in Paris on our 13yr anniversary! Well it didn’t disappoint! We had a romantic time, we got lost walking around the streets of Paris, we climbed so many sets of stairs, viewed the Eiffel tower many times (even from our hotel room) and we ate at lots of cafes and enjoyed all the city had to offer. It was so amazing to be there experiencing different cultures than our own and taking in the beauty of life, the history, and the architecture.
We really loved Paris, but when we arrived in Copenhagen we realized very quickly that we surprisingly loved Copenhagen even more! This city is gorgeous, colorful, clean, eco-friendly, hip, and stylish, with so many friendly people and great food places to offer. The whole city basically commutes on bicycles and has a rich history. They also prioritize family over work they close down shops early! They sure know how to balance and live healthy lives. It was so neat to see a city function this way, so differently than most cities. We loved walking the street and asking locals where to eat & what to do. We were so lucky that the wedding captured had all of their wedding guests take a boat tour through the city before reaching their venue. The venue, called Trekroner Fort, is an abandoned military fort surrounded by water of the Baltic sea. It was breathtaking, and such an adventure!
We stayed at an amazing hotel, the Axel Guldsmeden, we enjoyed all the Copenhagen street food out at Paper Island, and we enjoyed the colorful building views at Nyhavn. The city is alive in the summer, there are so many community gardens, live activities and music everywhere. The weather is quite unpredictable, which we learned very early, as is went from rain to sun in the blink of an eye. The Summer winds in Denmark are also crazy insanely strong! You can point out a local out of a crowd, they hold umbrellas and act crazy when the wind almost knocks them over. Everyone else just braces for it, gets their balance and waits for it to pass then moves on…. It is hilarious! The summer has long days I think at least 15hr days but I see they only have 7hrs of light in the winter… eekkkk . I won’t lie, we fell madly in LOVE with this city and wouldn’t be surprised if one day we end up moving here. We hope to take the kids maybe in summer 2018?
So basically this trip gave me and Aram a taste to travel. It did open our eyes to other cultures across the world, and it gave us a heart and appreciation for life. We met so many friends along the way through this trip and hope to plan future trips hopefully to Greece, Netherlands and Istanbul. Thank you Sazcis for trusting us & sending us across the sea to photograph your wedding, and giving us the traveling bug! See their wedding here Copenhagen Fairytale wedding
