There are moments in life where you realize this world we live in is so small. When there are so many coincidences, and the timing is just right, how can you deny that there is a Greater Power who is ultimately in control? But, we do have choices in life and those choices determine some of your future. Sem and Cynthia met years ago here in Sacramento through mutual friends. They soon realized that they both grew up in Watsonville & Cynthia’s cousin used to hang out with Sem years ago. They come from big families and their families mean so much to them. There is a 10 year difference between the two of them, but you would never know. They compliment each other so well and they have a mutual respect & support for one another. Sem is a designer, and Cynthia works for Diagnostic Pathology. Sem was the one who designed their invitations, which are amazing!!
So, they married this past week Sat June 16th 2012 at the Sacramento Cathedral then the reception was outdoors at the Putah Lodge in UC Davis
The weather forcast for the day was a high of 108! Yes, that is so hot and, honestly, I was worried a bit. But we ended up hitting a high of 105 with a slight breeze. It was extremely hot and we had to change the timeline a bit, but it wasn’t as bad as I expected. They had 250-300 guests arrive to celebrate their wedding vow to each other. The ceremony was a traditional mass and it was so beautiful! They both were so serious and I think nervous during the ceremony, but I captured a quick smile shared between the two of them when the priest turned his back. They arrived at the Putah Lodge around 5:00 and the tables were beautifully decorated, but most guests sat in the shade. The heat was a crutch but all their guests had smiles on their faces and they all were having a blast!
So I saw a little girl there and realized she was in our daughter’s class, and they were friends. I introduced myself to their parents and realized her dad grew up with Sem, what a small world!
They had a traditional Mexican four piece ensemble playing during dinner and the 13 piece band was setting up for the reception party! This band was so amazing, their name is Banda 300
They also had a DJ and he announced everything in Spanish, I wish I knew Spanish so I could understand all the nice things that were shared. So, during their first dance they were in the full sun at 6:30, and yes it was hot!! But, they were having fun, and keeping a great attitude. They had a fog machine that went off during the first dance, which looked very cool. I had no idea this was going to happen, so it kind of freaked me out at first. Close to the end of the dance the electricity went out, but they manged to get it back on for the rest of the dances. After the dances they did a traditional Mexican money dance. They used pins to pin money on them and, I have to say, it made for some great photos. Their friends and family sure know how to have a great time!
I took them away for a brief moment as the sun was setting and we got a few great shots. The Putah lodge was very pretty, it is a hidden gem at UC Davis campus. Unfortunately when we came back from photos the electricity was out. ALL OUT…. But even though the day went a little crazy, and things didn’t go to plan, the happiness overflowed. I have never seen such joy and celebration from all the guests. The band made the party so fun! Everyone was dancing despite the heat, and the fact that the power was out. The band was walking around the dance floor with all their instruments, it was a amazing to say the least! They electricity came on around 11:00 but, by that time, I had left.
Congrats Sem & Cynthia, you both make an exceptional couple, and I couldn’t see one of you with out the other. You’re both so sweet and talented. and I pray that God continues to lead you and guide you in all the years to come.
